Indigenous Solidarity

CESAR is committed to fortify its solidarity with First Nations, Métis, and Inuit students at Ryerson by helping to educate the Ryerson community about Indigenous access to education and lobby the university to implement the recommendations of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC).

In May, 2015, the TRC released the summary of its final report entitled: “Honouring the Truth, Reconciling for the Future”. The Summary contained 94 recommendations to help Canadians move towards reconciliation. Many of these recommendations were specifically for post-secondary institutions.

The Indigenous Solidarity campaign aims to:

  1. Implement the TRC’s recommendations at Ryerson
  2. Support Indigenous students’ organising on campus
  3. Organise direct actions in solidarity with Indigenous students and communities

The Indigenous Solidarity is open to all Ryerson students, including CESAR Class Reps and volunteers. Through this committee students will develop a plan for the campaign, create and implement actions. The committee will work with various students groups on campus and  partners in the city.
